About Chrome Diopside

Chrome Diopside is in the diopside family. One of the most common members of the pyroxene group. Often occurs in metamorphosed limestones (marbles) as generally pale greenish to greyish green crystals, masses and blebs/grains associated with humite-group minerals, spinel, phlogopite, tremolite and grossular.


Hardness


5.5 on the Mohs scale.


Occurrence



Myanmar (Burma), Russia, Pakistan, South Africa, Austria, Brazil, Italy, North America, Sri Lanka (Ceylon) and Finland. Star diopside is mainly from India.




Appearance


Colored by Chromium, this dark green diopside is similar in color to tsavorite garnet .


Enhancements


Chrome diopside is not enhanced.
